B-Side…”The World’s Largest Focus Group”
Okay, so I just came across this article in Variety (link below) that is pretty interesting. It highlights what could be the beginning of a new trend in film distribution, and yet another step away from the old way of doing things. B-Side, a pioneering distributor and online marketplace for independent films, is teaming up with IFC to find films at festivals that have fallen through the cracks…so to speak.
The fact is, more and more films are being made each year and it seems more festivals are also popping up to help find a place to showcase them. The only problem is when a films festival run is over, many are left high and dry with no where to go from there. They either don’t have the bankable stars that make a distributor comfortable with forking over a hefty advance, or they just don’t seem to have “marketability.” Even films with a great pedigree, many awards and festivals under their belt are dismissed as “not for us.”
Well, with technology quickly moving things away from traditional distribution, more distributors should look to the Internet and companies like B-side for guidance. The article in todays Variety shows that the decisions in the film business are no longer “just the opinions of a few old white guys in Hollywood.” How is this change taking place you ask? By YOU and your opinion. Seriously, Web 2.0 and everything happening right now is allowing people to be heard like never before. B-side recognizes this trend and is capitalizing on it, by getting the opinions festival goers allowing them to know what films are liked and which ones aren’t. “B-Side, which polls a carefully selected sample to determine people’s likes and dislikes before, during and after a festival reaches somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 million festgoers.” That is one big ‘ol focus group. Foget About Myspace Adder Robots - This is the Key to Success on Myspace!
If you are serious about using Myspace to promote then you know by now that using friend adder robots is quickly becoming an unsafe method and soon will extinct as a means of promotion.
While there are still some bots out there that actually work, rest assured Myspace is doing everything they can to put an end to the use of bots once and for all.
Now before you get too bummed out about losing your automated ticket to mass exposure there is a new piece of software that just came out the will revolutionize the way you promote on Myspace.
If you are like me, you want to be as effective and more importantly efficient as possible when promoting. I hate wasting time! The fact is, the majority of people on Myspace rarely, if ever go to Myspace. Most people sign up and then just forget about it. Even though there are 170 million profiles registered, only a fraction of them are active Myspace users. The good news is, the fraction of active users is still huge enough to give Myspace over a billion hits a day and make it one of the most visited sites on the Internet.
Of the active Myspace users, only a small percentage of them are what I like to call Super Myspace Users…otherwise know as users with high friend counts. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out that the accounts that have the most friends also generate the most traffic. And traffic is, quite simply, the key to success online.
Where am I going with this? Well, this new software allows you to automatically, quickly, and effortlessly find the Super Myspace Users. Instead of slowly finding these people one by one by hand, this software can do what would take hours or even days in just minutes.
The bottom-line is this…what good is adding a ton of friends if all the friends you add don’t even look at Myspace. This software will help you target active accounts with tons of friends. You can organically begin to add these friends and then begin having more and more people ask you to be their friend…instead of the other way around.
This is a new Era in Myspace promotion…it is no longer about adding a ton of friends and hoping your film gets seen. It is about gaining quality friends who in turn will help you generate the quantity of friends you need for massive results.
I can’t begin to express how excited I am about this new addition to my promotional arsenal.
